ENIL invites you to the battle-debate “UN CRPD + SDGs = Real Inclusion for All?”

The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) is pleased to invite you to a battle-debate in the European Parliament, on the link between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the right to independent living. The battle-debate, entitled UN CRPD + SDGs = Real Inclusion for All? is taking place on 7 December 2017, from 18:00h to 20:30h, and is hosted by Helga Stevens MEP. It is organised as part of the European Disability and Development Week, coordinated by the International Disability and Development Consortium.

During the battle-debate, speakers will be divided into two camps, with each camp having to take sides on different questions. The time to respond will be strictly limited when the bell rings, the time is up! The audience will decide on the most convincing camp. The debate will be followed by a drinks reception.

 

ENIL is excited to announce the following speakers will battle it out in the European Parliament: Ms Helga Stevens MEP; Mr Lars Bosselmann, the Director of CBMs Department for International Advocacy and Alliances; Ms Nadia Hadad, ENIL Board member; Ms Ana Pelaez Narvaez, former member of Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities/ CERMI (tbc); Mr Claude Cahn, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Regional Office for Europe; Mr Seamus Jeffreson, Director of the European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs (Concord); Ms Marion Steff, PhD SDGs Coordinator, European Disability Forum; Ms Ruth Faber, Director EU-Cord, Treasurer of the International Disability and Development Consortium; Mr Gaspar Frontini, Directorate for International Cooperation and Development Policy (DG DEVCO); Ms Abia Akram, CEO of the Pakistani National Forum of Women with Disabilities/ Asia Pacific Women with Disabilities United; Ms Kapka Panayotova, President of ENIL and Director of the Centre for Independent Living Sofia, Bulgaria; and a member of the Committee on Development at the European Parliament (tbc). 

You can register for the event here, no later than 5th December 2017. If you do not have a European Parliament pass, please send us your name, date of birth, passport/ID number, expiry date, nationality and place of residence. (Please include the same information for your personal assistant, if relevant.)
