Communications Coordinator - Publish what you pay

About Publish What You Pay

Building on two decades of work on extractive industries transparency and accountability, the Publish What You Pay (PWYP) network of over a thousand organisations from more than 50 countries is campaigning for a just transition to a fairer, cleaner energy future. Our strength lies in our ability to coordinate action nationally and globally, maximising our collective voice to push for policy and behaviour change in governments and businesses.

The world is at a turning point. There is no question that to prevent catastrophic climate change, a radical energy transition needs to take place fast. But it must be a just transition that protects the livelihoods of vulnerable people and communities who currently depend on oil, gas and mining. Our global strategy, Vision 2025, lays out a roadmap for a powerful and connected global network that can challenge the vested interests of oil, gas and mining companies, and drive a just energy transition that centres the needs of people living in resource dependent countries. Vision 2025 builds on our 20 years of success in securing unprecedented levels of transparency from the extractive industries while placing more emphasis on making sure that transparency leads to broader changes that improve the lives of citizens in producing countries. It prioritises greater citizen participation in the governance of oil, gas and mineral extraction so that people can exercise their right to take part in decisions that affect them and can hold the powerful to account.

The Role

Youll join PWYPs Communications & Campaigns Department. This department conceives and executes powerful network-driven advocacy campaigns and strategic communications that progress our people-centred agenda for extractive industries. Working across our 1000-member strong global movement, this department ensures the political analysis, storytelling, visibility and coordination needed to make the voice of the PWYP movement more powerful than the sum of its parts and achieve real change in the policies and practices of key players in the extractives sector.

The Communications & Campaigns Department also amplifies the voices of our members in key regional and international fora, and supports effective knowledge-sharing among members to strengthen advocacy impact and to realise the achievement of the collective goals in Vision 2025.

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for integrating high-impact strategic communications across PWYPs campaigns, programmes, and movement building. Working closely with our Member Engagement Department, the Communications Coordinator designs high-impact communications products, manages and grows PWYPs digital presence, and amplifies the voices and struggles of our membership.

Key results areas

  • Integrate a proactive and strategic approach to communications into PWYPs programmes, advocacy and movement building.
  • Manage PWYPs digital presence, and grow reach and impact through our multilingual website and digital channels.
  • Support and promote a diverse pool of spokespeople within the PWYP membership, including strategically elevating the voices of PWYP members and staff, and articulating the struggles and achievements of members.
  • Actively and regularly contribute to the PWYP Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework.
